USE CALENDARS
-Re-read each course syllabus; highlight important expectations & dates -Map your assignments on a monthly calendar and stick it over your desk! -Place your syllabi in the front of your notebook. This can help you preview assignments and exams -Add other important dates to your monthly calendar, e.g., career fairs, spring break, final exams, etc. -Spend time at your laptop every day. Do not rely on your cell phone exclusively—you will miss important details, attachments, etc. BE AWARE OF ACADEMIC POLICIES & REQUIREMENTS
-Check current Advising Checklists to stay on-track with your major and University requirements -Update your Graduation Plan as needed. |
PLAN FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS
-Develop a weekly study plan and commit to it -Try a new study strategy to take your academics to the next level -Identify and use campus resources early and as often as needed http://www.ensp.umd.edu/advising/study-skills-tutoring -FREE and CONFIDENTIAL counseling services are also available on campus. You’ve already paid for them with your student activities fees—use them! http://www.counseling.umd.edu/ INSTITUTE EFFECTIVE EMAIL MANAGEMENT -Develop “folders” in your email account—one for each course you are taking, one for advising messages, one for clubs/activities, etc. This is an important career skill -Print and make a paper file for internship applications. Keep track of application deadlines and requirements |
